Hit or Miss : Clean your make up brushes using dishwash detergent

Hello and Assalamualaikum.

Like finally, I made a post πŸ˜… Sorry for the wait, you guys. I was busy with work & assignments!! But but, you can always see me on my Instagram πŸ˜‰

I take brush cleaning so seriously. I mean, I wash my make up brushes often. My skin is very sensitive and prone to acne, so I always try to make sure that all of them are clean prior to use.

Last week, I stumbled upon a Youtube video from a beauty blogger. She made her dishwash detergent as her brush cleaner, and it works amazingly on cleaning! I am beyond excited to share this with you guys because it totally works!!

I know some people may question, is it okay to use dishwash detergent as brush cleaner alone? I totally have no idea! But I’ve been washing my foundation and eyeshadow brush after every use with the dishwash detergent alone. Thank God, it did not ruin the bristle, or even my skin, I believe. So I assume it works? Lol.

But some people add up extra virgin olive oil to the dishwash detergent when washing their brushes. This is for conditioning, or removing heavy make up that trapped on the brushes. Using olive (or even almond) oil may help in cleaning trapped and heavy make up on the brushes.

This is the result of using dishwash detergent alone 😜 Oh yes! I use it for my sponges too.

HOW TO CLEAN:

Brushes

  1. Squeeze just a small amount of dishwash detergent on the plate
  2. Wet your brush thoroughly
  3. Swirl your brush in circular motion on the plate, forming a lather
  4. Rinse well with water
  5. Repeat, if needed

Sponge

  1. Dip the sponge in water, make sure it’s completely wet
  2. Squeeze the dishwash detergent on the sponge
  3. Rub each side of the sponge onto the plate
  4. Rinse with water
  5. Repeat, if needed

How regular I clean my make up brushes & sponges?

I clean brushes that trap liquid such as foundation, concealer or eyeliner more often compared to others. Prolly, every after use. This is one of the reasons why I have lots of foundation/concealer brushes πŸ™ˆ (yes I’m that lazy)

  1. And your brushes are still totally intact? How long have you been using this method? I’m just wondering because even getting the ferrule wet can loosen the glue that holds the handle and ferrule together. This may not happen after a few washes but it may over time… I spot clean more than I deep clean. I feel deep cleaning should be once in a month kind of a thing…
